Follow the principles of Chinese cooking

Every cuisine has principles that govern it.  For Chinese food, they believe in creating a balance and harmony in food. That means that there has to be a balance in tastes, flavors, colors, and textures. That means that you should try and do a variety of meat and vegetables so that there is a balance.

Another important principle is that food is prepared before you start cooking. The vegetables should be washed prior so that it has enough time to drain water. For Chinese food, try to use as many fresh ingredients and possible. Sauces are also manually prepared. Marinating of meat should also be done early to give it time for the flavor to soak in the meat.

Use the right equipment

If you are into Chinese food, a wok is a must-have since there is a lot of stir-frying that needs to be done. Depending on what you need to cook, it is important to confirm that you have all the needed pieces of equipment prior.

Prepare the vegetables well

When it comes to preparing vegetables to be used in stir-frying, make sure that you choose vegetables that are as fresh as possible. They should be green and leafy. You should also make sure that they are properly drained or else it will affect the results that you will get. Arrange the vegetables accordingly so that you cook them accordingly. The hard ones and the soft ones should not be mixed since vegetable all cook at different rates and overcooking is not accepted in Chinese cooking.

The vegetables should also be cut accordingly and friend according to the size with the thickest ones first. As a rule of thumb if you are not sure stir fry the different vegetables separately then mix them later.

Prepare tofu well

This is very common in Chinese dishes. If you are planning to cook the tofu for long such as deep-frying, o for extra firm tofu since it needs to retain its shape when it is cooked.

Prepare meat well

When it comes to meat, it should be cut in uniform pieces. As a rule of thumb, fresh meat should always be marinated first. When cooking meat, wait for the wok to be very hot before adding in the meat. If you are planning to fry the meat and vegetables together, do the meat first. Stir fry both mean and vegetables separately then mix with the sauce when you are done. When adding oil for stir-frying, do it from the sides of the wok.
